SNUBBY
The only things that I've been buying lately are cameras and knives (and a photo book here and there). I just got this beauty from EMERSON - it's called a SNUBBY, because of it's short blade. But that's exactly the point, the blade is legal to carry, it's razor sharp, and the handle is full size, so it doesn't feel like you're holding a pocket knife or some toy knife... as Emerson puts it "It can still pack a heavyweight punch". it has the EMERSON WAVE OPEN feature - a hook that catches the end of your pocket as you pull the knife out. So the knife is open by the time it's out of your pocket. It can save you a split second when you need it most.
amazing knife, a true piece of art, made to last forever - it's a must for every real man!
Check out how the EMERSON WAVE OPENER works - click here (the knife shown in the video is not a 'Snubby')
And here is the SNUBBY review I found on youTube

espresso with mussolini
There is an amazing wholesale green market in Milan, unfortunately closed to the public. Of course, not going there wasn't an option - so Davide's friend who owns a vegetable stand sneaked Davide, his girlfriend and me in in the back of his van. Huge green market, great looking produce, people buying, selling, yelling at each other, forklifts speeding around - we even saw the police arresting a prostitute.
We stopped by the only bar in the market to have a coffee - it was a fascist bar with a picture of Benito Mussolini on the wall. Although I don't like mixing politics with food or art, the espresso was great. Well, it's freedom of speech, use it or lose it.
Apparently a lot of shady things are going on in the market, there were some arrests there recently - so no one really wants you there walking around and taking pictures. Davide's girlfriend got caught, kicked out and forced to pay a 70 euro fine; the two of us weren't with her at the time and got away, I guess cause we look like terroni ( a derogatory term for southern Italians) :)
Here is what i found on Google about the meaning of the word TERRONI:
"There is a really bad word that the northern Italians have created for the southern Italians : "terroni." This word is very bad, it's as bad as saying the "n" word to a black person."
"Terroni is a pejorative term for southern Italians slung mostly by hooligans in the North, a rough word meaning “peasant” but with strong overtones of “mud people” that I’ve mostly heard directed at Napoli soccer players by ultras in Bergamo and Milano."

THE MILGRAM EXPERIMENT
"The legal and philosophic aspects of obedience are of enormous importance, but they say very little about how most people behave in concrete situations. I set up a simple experiment at Yale University to test how much pain an ordinary citizen would inflict on another person simply because he was ordered to by an experimental scientist. Stark authority was pitted against the subjects' [participants'] strongest moral imperatives against hurting others, and, with the subjects' [participants'] ears ringing with the screams of the victims, authority won more often than not.
The extreme willingness of adults to go to almost any lengths on the command of an authority constitutes the chief finding of the study and the fact most urgently demanding explanation.
Ordinary people, simply doing their jobs, and without any particular hostility on their part, can become agents in a terrible destructive process. Moreover, even when the destructive effects of their work become patently clear, and they are asked to carry out actions incompatible with fundamental standards of morality, relatively few people have the resources needed to resist authority."
"The Perils of Obedience", John Milgram, 1974

TROPA DE ELITE
brutal, raw, real, I love it ... a movie that doesn't romanticize the favela, gangsta image, but tries to show both cops and dealers the way they are, full of shit.

zingari di milano
I went to a Gypsy camp on the outskirts of Milano with Davide and Manfredi of AVANTGARDEN gallery; and guess what? those Gypsies were from Serbia, so I was the man of the moment ... SRBIJA ! The camp was pretty civilized, nothing like I imagined it - no packs of dogs running around or old Gypsy women smoking pipes. Nope. All too normal (except that I bumped into a freshly slaughtered pig being shaved with BIC razors :)

Milano etc
Davide is here from Milano, we're scanning/editing for my upcoming exhibition that's opening there on February 5th @ AVANTGARDEN gallery. I spent 5 days in Milano in October, shot like a maniac, and we'll do the show using images that I shot during that time ...
here are some images that I scanned so far
